Instagram is not built. There is no inbound webhook, no message ingestion
and no outbound send. Naming it in an API call is rejected with
unsupported_channel.
This page exists because Instagram appears in enough places to look available,
and a reseller who plans a launch around it deserves to find out here rather
than three calls in.
Where it appears anyway
- Older plan tables list
instagram_chat as a feature. It is granted by no
plan and gates nothing — a flag with no code behind it.
AgentSession.channel accepts instagram as a historic value, so
conversations imported from an earlier system still validate. Nothing writes
new ones.
- Assistant channel pickers in some interfaces once offered it. It is not
in the launched set and is not offered now.
None of those mean a message will ever arrive.
What “not built” means concretely
An assistant cannot be assigned to it, a campaign cannot be bound to it, and a
merchant cannot connect an account.
What to tell a merchant
If Instagram DMs are the requirement, the honest answer today is that this
platform does not serve them. WhatsApp is the channel with the same
conversational shape and full support — see
Setup.
If it is a deal-breaker for real volume you are selling into, tell us. Demand is
what moves a channel from declared to built, and knowing which of your merchants
are waiting is more useful than a roadmap date we would have to guess at.
